                                       Natural and Parabens-Free Sunscreens

     Some individuals wish to use natural sunscreens because they wish to avoid parabens and other chemical additives.  The following is a partial list of sources for natural sunscreen products you might find helpful.  

     Please be aware that many natural sunscreens are not fragrance-free and may contain essential oils which can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.  Also, some natural sunscreens may not block out the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays (UV) as effectively as conventional sunscreens.  This might be especially important to individuals who are especially sensitive to the sun, such as people with lupus erythematosus, polymorphous light eruption, skin cancer, or patients taking heart medications, blood pressure medicines, and other drugs which cause increased sun sensitivity.  Finally, some natural sunscreens can be greasier and less cosmetically elegant than conventional sunscreens.

     Nevertheless, the quest to pursue safer and more natural skin care products is a noble goal leading mankind in the right direction.  The following products may contain less potentially harmful chemicals than conventional sunscreens.  Also, the importance of seeking shade while outdoors and wearing hats and protective clothing should be emphasized.
