EARLY LOCALIZED LYME DISEASE |
|
This photo shows a patient who was just diagnosed by Dr. Signore with EARLY LOCALIZED LYME DISEASE. This eruption, known as ERYTHEMA MIGRANS, is the EARLIEST SKIN SIGN of Lyme Disease. This case demonstrates the importance of seeing your dermatologist for evaluation of any unexplained rashes of sudden onset. Lyme Disease is a SERIOUS BACTERIAL INFECTION spread by ticks. People can catch Lyme Disease after being bitten by a tick while walking in the woods or tall grass where wildlife, such as deer and mice, are present. This individual was working outdoors in his garden. While most Chicagoans associate Lyme Disease with places such as Wisconsin, New York, & Connecticut, this case shows that Lyme Disease is also a threat right here in the SUBURBAN CHICAGO AREA. |

This photo shows the same individual after being treated by Dr. Signore with DOXYCYCLINE, an antibiotic used to treat EARLY LYME DISEASE. As you can see, the "BULL'S-EYE RASH" of early Lyme Disease (aka Erythema Migrans) is ALL CLEAR. This case shows the importance of EARLY DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT of Lyme Disease. If Lyme Disease is not detected early, it can lead to SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS, such as facial paralysis, heart problems, arthritis, difficulty speaking, and difficulty with concentration and thought processes. |

The above individual was seen in Dr. Signore's Tinley Park dermatology office eight days after working outside in his garden. On the basis of an enlarging "BULL'S-EYE RASH" (also known as ERYTHEMA MIGRANS), Dr. Signore diagnosed him with LYME DISEASE and treated him with the antibiotic doxycycline. As you see in the second photo, his "BULL'S-EYE RASH" completely cleared-up with treatment. His diagnosis of Lyme Disease was also confirmed by a blood test that Dr. Signore ordered. Thankfully, this patient came in at the earliest stage of Lyme Disease (Stage I: Early Localized Lyme Disease).
Lyme Disease, also known as Lyme Borreliosis, is a serious bacterial infection which is transmitted to humans by tick bites. Often, humans are bitten by ticks while walking in wooded areas or tall grass where wildlife, such as deer and mice, are present. Fortunately, if an attached tick is promptly removed, the transmission of Lyme Disease can be prevented.

This case shows the importance of EARLY DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT of Lyme Disease.
